The Slogar building was built in 1882 by Thomas W. Lipcomb. It was the first tavern frequented by Crested Butte's miners on their way home from a day’s work at the Big Mine on the Bench. Saloon girls would ply miners with libations after long hours in the coal mine. The Slogar claims a spot on the “Haunted Tour” of Crested Butte as these same saloon girls can be seen sweeping through the building in their large hoop skirts. In 1976, after a long vacancy, The Slogar building was restored and converted into one of the finest restaurants Crested Butte offers.
A Crested Butte Restaurant Tradition
The Slogar has been offering family style, skillet-fried chicken dinners in Crested Butte since its inception in 1989. The specialty skillet fried chicken is created from a world famous recipe dating back to 1915. Handmade baking powder biscuits, old-fashioned mashed potatoes, and rich chicken gravy have been a Crested Butte tradition for both locals and visitors for 30 years.

Ian Scott, Ayla Scott (husband & wife), are proud to bring you into another decade of delicious family dinners in Crested Butte. Ian, owner and head chef, brings The Slogar his rich experience as a classically trained French Chef from the New England Culinary Institute. He has served as Sous Chef at both The Sunflower and Soupcon over the last 10 years. Ayla, owner and master mixologist, brings cocktail expertise from years as a bartendress and bar manager across West Virginia, Vermont, and Colorado. She shook the martini shaker most recently managing The Dogwood in both Crested Butte, Colorado and Bend, Oregon.
Following their love for New Orleans Creole style cuisine, Ayla and Ian have implemented a “Colorado Creole” Lunch featuring Po’Boys, Bahn Mi’s, Gumbo, Chicken ‘n’ Waffles, Shrimp & Gritz and more! Ayla and Ian are so proud and excited to be a part of your Slogar memories!
